It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The shopping event of the year has finally arrived.

And trust me, Nordstrom employees have been busy getting everything ready for you. I’m picking up some extra hours at the Pleasanton store as a stock person for the Men’s Sportswear department (to fuel my new Mini Cooper, which only takes premium gasoline- how rude!). Nordstrom has been receiving new Anniversary merchandise every day for over two weeks and the stock rooms are practically overflowing. I’ve been swimming in hangers five days a week making sure everything will be in order when doors open at 7am and the crowd rushes in this Friday, July 18.

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is absolutely my favorite time of year to shop. When else is brand new luxury brand merchandise brought to a location near you and marked down for 18 days? It’s the perfect time to go back-to-school shopping for the whole family. It’s a great time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping, too. This is a perfect excuse, rationalization, rather, to use if your father starts blowing steam out his ears at the sight of the all the shiny silver shopping bags, like mine does. “It’s not all for me dad. I got a matching scarf for Grandma!”

At last year’s Anniversary sale, I saved a bundle on a Nanette Lepore Sequin Shift Dress and some Kate Spade patent leather Mary Jane heels, which made up the perfect outfit to don around the City for my 21st birthday. I couldn’t have survived last year without my Steve Madden Riding Boots. So what if I didn’t actually wear them horseback (I’ve refused to approach the hairy mammoths since I spent last 4th of July in the hospital from an ungraceful dismount), but I did pair them with every outfit I wore in Fall and Winter 2007. They polished and pulled together every pair of skinny jeans I own.

Don’t wait until Friday to start mapping out your shopping strategy. Get a sneak peek at the Anniversary Sale loot in Nordstrom’s latest catalog at http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/nordstrom/. Virtually flip through 84 pages of the season’s hottest styles and draft your game plan.

This year, I have my eye on the Halogen cape-sleeve plaid tweed jacket. It’s only $109.90 until prices go up Monday, August 4, when it will be sold full price for  $168.00. My best friend, Libby Senna, sells in the T.B.D. department and says, “Big collars on jackets- oversized even” are very in for fall, so I’ll be ahead of the curve when I go back to school in this European coat.

Clothes aren’t the only items going on sale this Friday. I’m planning on snatching the Daisy by Marc Jacobs Anniversary perfume gift set. It comes with the eau de toilette spray, luminous body lotion, solid perfume ring with pouch, and train case, a $132 value that I’ll be making off with for only $85.

Doors open at the Walnut Creek and Pleasanton Nordstrom stores at 7am, Friday, July 18. Hurry in; prices will only be this low until Monday, August 4.
