Diablo Dish Shocker! Gigi's in Lafayette is closing February 14

My friend Kris and I have had plans for lunch today for a week. When we bumped into each other this morning at Peet's, she asked me where we should go. I told her to pick and she asked what about a lunch in Lafayette? Simultaneously we said: "Let’s go to Gigi!"

An hour later, freelance writer Lynn Carey tells me Gigi is going to close. When I tell the Diablo gang, the team is stunned and goes into mourning. This is a favorite spot of my friends, my co-workers—and Diablo readers and our food judges, who gave Gigi a Diablo Food Award in November.

The only upside is that Gigi won’t close until February 14 (they'll offer a special Valentine's dinner menu that last night), so we have 36 more days of delicious fish tacos, savory salmon crepes and award-winning hamburgers (see our February issue). Owner Jeffrey Amber says he is looking for a bigger location, so he sold the restaurant to a new owner—we'll make sure to let you know more about that when we can. Amber is looking for new digs in the Bay Area and hopes to land in Oakland or Berkeley. I hope he finds a spot close to my office on Camino Diablo.
